Prof. Dr. Güven Özdem, who had been serving as the Acting Dean of the Giresun University Faculty of Education, handed over the position to Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şanal during a handover ceremony.

Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can, Acting Secretary General Arzu Turan Kurt, and the faculty administration attended the handover ceremony held at the Faculty of Education Dean's Office on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can thanked Prof. Dr. Güven Özdem—who had served as Acting Dean for over three years—for his contributions to the faculty's development and his successful work during his tenure.

Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can also congratulated Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şanal, who has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Education, and wished him success in his new role. Noting that the Faculty of Education is one of the university's key academic units due to its educational activities and academic work, Prof. Dr. Can expressed his belief that efforts toward the faculty's development—particularly regarding quality assurance processes—would continue to gain momentum.

In his speech at the ceremony, the outgoing Dean Prof. Dr. Güven Özdem thanked the faculty administration, as well as the academic and administrative staff, with whom he had worked during his more than three-year tenure. Stating that they had worked devotedly for the development of the Faculty of Education throughout his term, Prof. Dr. Özdem expressed that he would continue to be part of the Faculty of Education family even after handing over the deanship.


Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şanal, who has assumed the role of Dean, began his speech by thanking Prof. Dr. Güven Özdem for his valuable contributions to the faculty. Noting his close friendship with Prof. Dr. Güven Özdem, Prof. Dr. Şanal expressed that taking over the position from him held special significance for him.

Following the speeches, Rector Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Can presented flowers to both Prof. Dr. Güven Özdem, who was handing over the role, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şanal, who was assuming it.

The handover ceremony concluded after a commemorative photograph was taken to mark the occasion.
